Applications Due for 22nd Annual Concerto Competition for Northwest Florida Musicians 8th Grade through College, sponsored by the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra Guild and the Mattie Kelly Fine and Performing Arts Center at NWF State College. Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce’s Official Mardi Gras 2009 Poster Contest. Winning art will be the official image for the event and will be prominently displayed in all event advertising. $200 cash prize; winning artwork becomes sole property of the Chamber. Submissions should be 11”x14” and include the theme “Mardi Gras by the Sea.” Artwork must include the words “Mardi Gras on the Island, 2009, Fort Walton Beach, Florida.” All submissions should be camera ready and unsigned. Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida Hosts Anna Sandlin’s Folk Art Style Painting Classes throughout September, October and November on the first and third Wednesdays. Stained Glass Mosaics Classes at Artful Things in September. Sharon Eckerly offers two different classes at the Niceville store. United Way of Okaloosa and Walton Counties Day of Caring, a mobilization of volunteers to celebrate the spirit of giving through service by providing a morning of meaningful volunteer opportunities to individuals. - Dec. 16-17. Oliver!, the much-loved family musical, brings Charles Dickens’ immortal characters to heartwarming life.
- Jan. 12, 2009. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, the Tony Award winning musical comedy that follows six youngsters who learn valuable life lessons about winning and losing.
- Jan. 24, 2009. The Drowsy Chaperone, the hilarious tale of a celebrity bride and her uproarious wedding day. The musical comedy cleaned up at the 2006 Tony Awards.
- Feb. 7, 2009. American Spirtual Ensemble, featuring dynamic interpretations of classic spirituals, jazz standards and Broadway tunes that highlight the black experience.
- Feb. 23, 2009. Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Chicago’s leading contemporary dance company, displays unparalleled versatility and virtuosity.
- March 11, 2009. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, a lively and hilarious musical about a pair of con men on the French Riviera.
- March 21, 2009. Moscow Cats Theatre. As seen on Good Morning America and Live with Regis and Kelly, the 35-cat, one-dog, and five-clown troupe performs amazing acrobatic acrobatic feats, dancing, balancing, and more.
